After School Activities Back Home

So I thought to get the ball rolling and for a little reminiscing I'd post about what I got up to in my previous home in Auckland.

When reviewing photos from the last few years living in Auckland I realised the I would have to do a mini series to cover everything but I'll start with a couple.

BIKING

This is my bike which I had to leave at home. I had the joy of being able to cycle to work from my lovely home in Grey Lynn.

DIVING
Me, Celia and Nicole - Diving in Huh
Sarah and I - Diving in the Poor Knights

BADGE COLLECTING

ROLLER DERBY
I dabbled for a time in roller derby. I really enjoy roller skating but I realised after a time that I wasn't tough enough to get down with the derby girls. I loved the fitness associated with practice but it just didn't suit my temperament to skate and bash other girls.

BOOK CLUB

Unfortunately I don't have a photo of the excellent book club crew I left behind, but these are some felt pins I tried to get to all of the girls as a wee book club memento. I got them from the Andy Warhol Exhibition which was on a Te Papa in Wellington when I went visiting in June. Our book club wasn't your usual 'everyone read this book and we will discuss it on this date' we just all bought along a book which we had recently read and enjoy/not enjoyed and used these to simulate discussion. Although often discussion wasn't something we struggled for.

I miss these nights of intellectual conversation, delicious treats and many cups of tea.

SINGING
Singing has always been a passion of mine. A group of friend and I often frequented a local karaoke place called 'Champion Karaoke'. They were brilliant, your $30 an hour bought you a private room so you and your friends could sing away to your hearts content. I always thought it was BYO turns out we were just 'sneaking' our bottles of wine in, oops. This was on of our favourite songs to sing (in Karaoke form so you can bust it out now it you fancy).

LETTER WRITING CLUB
This was a blissful Thursday night activity which occurred the third Thursday of the month. I enjoyed going along and in a peaceful room filled with the tapping of type writers (available to use) I could write letters to those who were with me in Auckland. If you live in Auckland and want to find out when the next one is on and go along to write letters to friend a far (such as in Perth) follow Alphabet City on Facebook.
